Jefferson Hills is a rapidly growing residential community with several new construction home communities. It also has many established home communities. Jefferson Hills is home to most of the West Jefferson Hills School District Schools. Take a peaceful walk on the Peters Creek Walking Trail, where you can also fish and explore.
The Borough currently consists of an area of 16.9 square miles and contains a population of 9,666 as of 2000 with the last U.S. Census. There are approximately 3,781 households in the Borough. 60% of the households are married couples, 8% are single parent families and 25% are single persons living alone. Twenty-six percent of the population is under 19 years of age; 33% is between 19 and 44; 24% is between 45 and 64 and 17% is over 65. Twenty-three percent of the families have children under 18 and 10% of those 65 and older live alone.
Twenty-nine percent of the population has lived in the Borough for five years or less. Ninety percent of the residents over 25 years old are high school graduates; 28% are college graduates; 9% possess graduate or professional degrees. Sixty-one percent of the families have two or more wage earners; approximately 35% of residents are not in the labor force. Thirty-nine percent of the Borough’s residents are managers and professionals; 40% are in sales, clerical and technical occupations. The median income per family in 2000 was $60,767.
